VERTICAL PARK GUILD
The Vertical Park Guild acts as an extension of the Chinatown public park in Manhattan. The guild creates a unique and previously unavailable gathering space for cultural expression and entertainment. Large indoor and outdoor gathering spaces allow for classes, social events, and meetings. There are large public gardens and greenhouses for locals and visitors and a large indoor and outdoor playground for children of all ages. The pieces for the playground are made in the workshop with local and traditional Chinese joinery and building techniques. There are private cafes, greenhouses, and wood shops that local business owners can rent. The form of the building allows for light to reach all of the interior spaces through a light well that extends down to the subway. The facades are inspired by rockite models and offer contrasting and unique views of the building.
